A 33-year-old man suspected in a series of murd£rs in northeastern Brazil was reportedly arrested after authorities said he tried to evade police by wearing women’s clothing and a wig, as well as carrying a toddler who was not his.
Jorlan Lopes da Silva was arrested on Sunday, September 13, in Mulungu, Paraíba, after a joint operation involving Civil and Military Police and federal highway police intelligence, according to Correio Braziliense.
Authorities said he was with a toddler, who was not hurt.
Citing Paraíba Civil Police, Correio Braziliense said Lopes da Silva is being investigated in multiple murd£rs in the Vale do Mamanguape region and is suspected of ties to a violent criminal organization.
Police said they have linked him to at least 16 k!llings.
Lopes da Silva allegedly told police he had k!lled about 80 people over two decades, beginning when he was 13, PEOPLE reported.
Following a custody hearing, a judge ordered Lopes da Silva held and he was transferred to the Alagoinha Public Jail, according to UOL.
