Taiwan Coast Guard Uses Water Cannon to Drive Off Chinese Fishing Boats Near Dongsha

Taiwan’s Coast Guard used a water cannon to drive away two Chinese fishing boats operating in restricted waters near the Taiwan-controlled Dongsha Islands in the South China Sea.

One vessel left after repeated warnings, while the second refused to depart and was sprayed with a water cannon before moving away.

The vessel later lost power while leaving the area. Taiwan’s Coast Guard provided food to its crew and towed the boat outside the restricted waters before handing it over to a Chinese work vessel.

The incident comes amid increased maritime activity around Dongsha and heightened tensions between Taiwan and China.
