Tanzanian activist Jennifer “Niffer” Jovin is facing treason charges after the October election protests

Tanzanian activist and influencer Jennifer “Niffer” Jovin is facing treason charges alongside 21 others after the October election protests.

Authorities accuse her of encouraging protesters to buy protective masks, a move prosecutors claim amounted to inciting rebellion. The offence is non-bailable and carries the death penalty under Tanzanian law.

Human rights groups say the case highlights the growing crackdown on dissent and the shrinking space for free expression in the country.
