The Opposition Must Stop Harassing President HH Over ECL’s Eligibility Case

The recent surge in articles and social media posts suggesting President Hakainde Hichilema’s involvement in former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s eligibility case is not only misleading but also unfounded. These claims allege that President Hichilema is attempting to bar Dr. Lungu from participating in the 2026 presidential election. However, the truth remains that President Hichilema did not initiate the eligibility case, and he has no influence over its outcome.

President Hichilema is a principled and disciplined leader who respects the rule of law. He has sworn to uphold and protect the Constitution of Zambia, and his commitment to this oath remains unwavering. The opposition’s relentless accusations against the Head of State are not only unfounded but also detrimental to the country’s political climate.

It is essential to recognize that the President, the United Party for National Development (UPND), or any other entity has no right or jurisdiction to prevent citizens from seeking legal redress. The eligibility case is a matter for the courts to decide, and it is crucial to allow the legal process to unfold without political interference and specifications.

The opposition’s attempts to link President Hichilema to Dr. Lungu’s eligibility case are uncalled for and divisive. The outcome of this case will ultimately reveal the truth, and it is likely to surprise those who have been misled by false accusations.

In conclusion, it is imperative for the opposition to cease their harassment of President Hichilema regarding Dr. Lungu’s eligibility case. Instead, they should focus on constructive political engagement and allow the legal process to run its course.
