Third term debate started by those afraid Zambians want Hichilema to continue – Masebo
LOSING UPND Chongwe East Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo claims that the debate over the removal of the Presidential term limit has been started by those in the opposition.
Masebo says the debate has further been ignited by some members of the party who have secret Presidential ambitions.
She says those pushing the debate are afraid that they cannot compete with President Hakainde Hichilema, whom she says members of the UPND and Zambians want to continue in office.
“So who is starting these debates about third term even before we start running government officially, huh? Of course, it is those in the opposition.
“It is those even sometimes who may not even be in the opposition that may have been having secret ambitions and they are afraid that they cannot compete with President HH and that the members of the party and the Zambian people want HH to continue,” Masebo claims
Masebo has since called for an end to the debate, saying it is unnecessary and has no place in the party or government at the moment.
“So stop this HH term debate. It is unnecessary, it has no place for now, in our party and not even in our government,” Masebo says.
Last week, UPND member Florence Chama, who was recently elected Member of Parliament under the Proportional Representation system, called for the removal of the Presidential term limit, as well as a move from democracy to dictatorship.
Chama expressed her desire to support President Hakainde Hichilema to continue in office beyond Article 106(3) prescribed period of two terms.
The debate on Presidential term limits has further been heightened by the UPND Party Media Director and several other party members who have expressed support for the removal of the Presidential term limit.
Previously, President Hakainde Hichilema expressed views against extending stay in power beyond the period prescribed by the Constitution.
The Head of State is yet to comment on the fresh calls for the removal of the Presidential term limit being made by some members of his party.

Ba Masebo please! The President can easily shut down this debate by telling his cadres he is not going for a third term and the he doenot want to hear any more on the matter.
Strangely, both the UPND Secretsry General and his deputy are ndwii!!!! That silence says a lot.
