Francis Kapwepwe, widely known as “Why Me”, appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court yesterday. He is facing three charges, including one count of hate speech.
The central truth we must hold onto is this: HE IS ALIVE. In recent months, a cloud of rumors and false reports suggested otherwise, stirring unnecessary fear and confusion. His appearance in court should bring relief, gratitude, and above all, a reminder of the value of truth in public discourse
I have often been critical of the UPND government, and I continue to have serious disagreements with its approach on many issues. Yet, integrity demands that I acknowledge what is right when it is done. By ensuring that Francis Kapwepwe’s life was preserved and that he has been brought before a competent court of law, the government has shown a measure of decency and respect for the rule of law. In this instance, it deserves commendation.
I may not know the circumstances in which he was brought into Zambia from his hiding spot in Zimbabwe but we are grateful for his life.
Equally, those who spread false claims of his death owe the public an apology. To mislead citizens on a matter as sensitive as the life of a fellow human being is not only reckless but irresponsible as it breaches the trust and integrity our society depends upon. We must learn to handle such matters with sobriety, truth, and responsibility.
This moment is bigger than politics. It is about affirming the sanctity of life and the importance of due process. Whatever charges Francis Kapwepwe faces, justice must run its course in the courtroom not in the rumor mill.

That’s too much to expect from people the SP man is talking about. Decency is not something they consider important. They’ll just move to concoct another lie.

Do you mean Why Me ‘s life was in essence meant to be destroyed and therefore the government of HH did him a favour by preserving him ? What are you talking about ? Do you know what they have done to him all this time he has been missing ? Do you know people have been killed slowly and silently in this world? Stop this cadrerism of praising the government when you have no clue what the young man has been subjected to. You think just because he is alive , all is good with him. Di you understand mental , psychological and emotional torture is the most brutal way of eliminating someone ? Stop this nonsense of being a praise singer who supports anything and everything without objectivity. Posterity will judge this government harshly and one day everyone will be held accountable for every action, mental , psychological tortures Zambians have been subjected to under HH. There is more to life than being seen to be walking and thinking he is ok just because he is not dead.
Do you know yourself what they have done to him, Sir, or you are mere speculating and insinuating? Do you also understand the mental, psychological and emotional torture one can suffers from being insulted? Have you been insulted in your life before, how does it feel? I am sure since you are in the Diaspora in London UK, wherever that is, Whites may occasionally heap unprintable insults on you for being Black? Objectivity is: This “Why Me” Saga should not have happened in the first place, period.
