Trump Laughs Off Third Impeachment Threat: “For Having a Successful Country?”
President Trump dismissed fresh talk of impeachment with open contempt on Wednesday, hours after Democrats seized full control of Congress in the midterms. Standing at a construction site surrounded by workers and equipment, he was asked whether the new Democratic majorities concerned him.
“No. Not even a little bit,” Trump said. “I think it would destroy the Democrat Party if they did that, because impeachment for no reason—what, for having a successful country? Our country is more successful now than at any time in its history.”
The remarks land as Democratic leaders weigh whether to pursue a third impeachment. Trump was previously impeached twice and acquitted both times in the Senate.
With Democrats now holding both chambers, some in the party see an opening for investigations and formal charges, while others caution that another failed attempt would backfire.
