U.S. Sends Third Aircraft Carrier and Thousands of Troops Toward Middle East
The United States is deploying the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group toward the Middle East, potentially bringing a third U.S. aircraft carrier into the region as tensions with Iran continue to escalate.
More than 2,000 U.S. Marines are also moving toward the region aboard the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group. Overall, the latest naval deployment involves roughly 9,000 U.S. personnel, including sailors and Marines.
The deployment comes as President Donald Trump weighs whether to resume large-scale military action against Iran, following the latest breakdown in diplomatic efforts.
By the end of November, U.S. officials expect three aircraft carriers and two amphibious landing groups to be positioned near Iran, significantly expanding Washington’s military options in the region.
