UK Threatens to Expel Israeli Diplomats as Israel Moves to Close Jerusalem Consulate
Britain has threatened to expel Israeli diplomats from London if Israel proceeds with its decision to close the British Consulate in East Jerusalem.
The Israeli government ordered the consulate to close by October 8 after Britain announced measures targeting goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
British officials are considering expelling a similar number of Israeli diplomats in response, with reports indicating that up to 27 diplomats could be affected.
The diplomatic standoff marks a sharp escalation in relations between the two countries, as London continues to oppose Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank.
British and Israeli officials have held talks in an attempt to prevent the consulate from being closed, but no agreement has been reached so far.
