UKA fight for presidency intensifies

THE fight for the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) 2026 presidential candidacy has intensified with vicious mingalato behind the scenes.

The alliance was formed earlier this year and eventually attracted 12 political parties, including former President Edgar Lungu’s faction of the Patriotic Front (PF) and Harry Kalaba’s Citizens First.

However, the unity of the alliance began to crumble over who should lead the group in the next polls.

About a month ago, four tiny political parties resigned from the alliance with its chairman Sakwiba Sikota announcing the expulsion of three other mickey mouse one-man parties from the group.

All parties that left UKA are aligned to the PF.

The PF and its affiliated parties firmly believe Lungu is the most viable candidate to challenge the ruling UPND, citing his popularity and experience.

On the other hand, opponents of Lungu’s candidacy argue that his tainted past and ongoing internal legal and party battles make him an unsuitable choice.

The infighting has now spilled onto the UKA’s Facebook page, where a documentary https://www.facebook.com/share/v/3atLvrnxUUZiXUtU/ questioning Lungu’s intentions and suitability for the presidency has been shared.

The documentary titled; “The Real Motivation”
features a Voice of America interview clip where Lungu explicitly states his presidential ambitions are driven by family interests.

The documentary highlight Lungu’s weaknesses during his tenure and raise concerns about his fitness for the top job.
