UKA recognises UPND’s desperation to form a de-facto one party state – Saki

UKA recognises the desperation of the ruling party to form a de-facto one party state in Zambia, says alliance chairperson Sakwiba Sikota
He argues that this is in order to advance their 2026 agenda as well as have the capacity to make changes to the Constitution through a parliament in which they have a majority.
“The United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) stands by its decision not to field a candidate in the Kawambwa Central by-election through its member party, Citizens First Party (CF).
The decision not to field a candidate was arrived at after taking into consideration the fact that the more opposition party candidates taking part in the election the more that opposition party votes would needlessly be split,” Sikota explained in a statement. “In addition, UKA recognises the desperation of the ruling party to form a de-facto one party state in Zambia in order to advance their 2026 agenda as well as have the capacity to make changes to the constitution through a parliament in which they have a majority.
To this end, UKA has noted with concern the ruling party’s machinations levelled against opposition party members of parliament of whom honourable Nixon Chilangwa was one.”
He said, as patriotic Zambians that have the interests of the Zambian nation and people at heart, “the UKA Council of Presidents (CoP) are of the view that the ‘national cause’ for Zambians greatly outweighs our desire to contest the Kawambwa seat and have therefore stood aside for that purpose”.
“We wish the opposition well in this by election,” said Sikota
UKA is simply dead after Edgar Lungu defected to Tonse Alliance and took over power there. UKA was supposed to participate in the elections using Citizens First (CF), as they did in the past, even held a rally but this is all history after Edgar Lungu left. So, to talk about not participating in the elections because it would diminish chances of the opposition winning is accepting not only defeat but conceding to superiority of Tonse Alliance. It is over for UKA.
Uka is also a defacto one party alliance after all parties left to join tonse alliance. Uka therefore is no longer an alliance.
UKA has missed an opportunity to test it’s popularity. How would you wait to write a big exam and you avoid mock exams. This does not make sense at all.I believe UKA is made of small parties. So these small parties have all gotten scared of featuring a candidate.Dont fear UPND so much. You must instead show that you can compete favourably well. How do you accuse UPND of wanting to have one party state when your parties are for decorations and making noise.
What is it with SaKwi holding on to dead copses? Is it a specialty for him to earn his law firm money from weak souls that believe he is helping? Look at the Jay Jay issue- they must start arresting lawyers who represent prisoners that escape! Sakwi is still smiling all the way to the bank after receiving instructions from Jay Jay. SaKwi knows what I mean here!
It is actually the actions of the opposition parties which are contributing to the creation of your so called one party state. Apart from Dr. M’membe’s Socialist Party, all other “opposition parties” have coalesced into alliances which has effectively destroyed the identity of the individual parties.
Most of these alliances (including your UKWA) are powered by ECL (Mr. Edgar Lungu) and therefore pandering to PF whims. Remember Mr. Pule of the Christian Democratic Party singing the idolatry song “I have decided to follow Lungu”?
So, Mr. Sakwiba Sikota, you and the other opposition party leaders are responsible for the emerging one party state.
