ANDREW TAYENGWA SCOOPS KABWATA BY-ELECTION

United Party Natioanl Development Candidate Andrew Tayengwa has scooped the Kabwata Parliamentary by-election.

Kabwata Constitutency Returning Officer Hellen Mubita declared Andrew Tayengwa winner after obtained 13,574 votes against Patriotic Front-PF’s Clement Tembo who got 11,192 votes.

Socialist Party’s Tripher Ngandu got 1,549 votes, Economic Equity Party-EEP Chilufya Tayali got 420, Sydney Zyambo of People’s Alliance for Change-PAC got 222 and Democartic Party-DP’s Fred Mubanga obtained 124 votes.

Other candidates such as Engiwe Mzyece of the United Independence Party got 63 votes, New Heritage Party’s Kennedy Muyowa obtained 46 votes while Henry Muleya of Patriots for Econonic Progress-PeP only got 30 votes.

Speaking after being declared winner, Mr. Tayengwa has pledged to deliver equitable development to the people of Kabwata.

UPND Chairman for Elections Garry Nkombo has urged losing candidates to concede defeat gracefully.

Meanwhile Patriots for Economic Progress-PeP President Sean Tembo has cried foul in a Facebook post citing alleged intimidation by the UPND against his supporters since nomination day.

The Parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Levy Mkandawire who was run over by a speeding motorist outside his residence last November.
