UPND GENERATED OWN CENSUS ENUMERATORS RECRUITMENT LIST AWAY FROM FORMAL PROCESS – SILAVWE

It is extremely sad that those that neither applied nor sat for the aptitude tests but had connections are the majority that were picked, says Golden Party of Zambia president Jackson Silavwe as he charges that nepotism and corruption denoted census enumerators recruitment.

Mr Silavwe said reports from Chipata, Mazabuka, Mufulira, Zambezi, Kabwe, Ndola districts all indicate that ruling party officials and cadres generated their own lists through the District commissioners away from the formal process.

While stating that he understood that UPND members needed jobs, the opposition leader said the Nation must not be held at ransom at all.

He said a successful UPND ruling party must completely do away with the old habit of the past regimes.

Mr Silavwe said the reports of nepotism and corruption exhibited by the UPND officials and cadres during the 2022 census enumerators recruitment is very unfortunate.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader called on President Hakainde Hichilema to cancel the current census enumerators recruitment process and start afresh.

“Every Zambian must be given an equal opportunity to apply and be selected on merit not on the basis of being part of the ruling party,” he said.

“We appeal to President Hichilema and his Government to cancel the current census enumerators recruitment process and start afresh. Corruption and nepotism in national programmes must not be entertained at all cost…..It is extremely sad that those that neither applied nor sat for the aptitude tests but had connections are the majority that were picked.”
