Advocates for National Development and Democracy (ANDD) has noted with dismay, sentiments by UPND members calling for the removal of former president Edgar Lungu’s immunity.
ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda has described it as shocking for the UPND administration to advance such retrogressive and hate motivated agendas barely after being in office for 90 days instead of focusing their energy to fulfill the promises they made to the Zambian people.
He said in a statement that Zambians are interested not in such witch-hunt but in seeing the creation of employment opportunities for the youths ,purchasing of fertilizer at a cost of k250, Mealie Meal k50 and reduction of the cost of doing business and living as well as increasing salaries for Civil servants.
“What the Zambian people are looking forward to is implementation of the promises UPND made and not removal of Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s immunity” Mr Banda has said.
He has since advised the UPND and the general public to desist from the bad culture of disrespecting and witch hunting of former heads of state.
“We are of the view that if Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu committed any crimes, let the law enforcement agencies present evidence to president Hakainde Hichilema as per requirement of the Law and the president should now present the evidence to parliament” he further said.
“We wish to state that this country will never develop and achieve its developmental agendas if we spend time on witch hunting and trying to dent the image of our political competitors instead of focusing our energies in improving the economy” Mr Banda said.
