US Builds Up Naval Forces Near Iran as Fears of Renewed War Grow Ahead of Midterm Elections

The United States is preparing to reinforce its military presence in the Middle East with a potential third aircraft carrier strike group, as tensions with Iran remain high ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

Two US aircraft carriers, USS George H.W. Bush and USS George Washington, are already operating in the region. Meanwhile, the USS Theodore Roosevelt departed San Diego on September 27 and has been moving through the Indo-Pacific, with its strike group expected to join US Central Command forces in November.

The potential deployment would significantly expand Washington’s naval capabilities, adding more fighter aircraft, guided-missile destroyers and thousands of personnel to an already substantial military presence.

The buildup comes as regional governments prepare for the possibility of renewed US strikes against Iran after the elections. US officials have warned allies to anticipate potential Iranian retaliation against energy infrastructure and other critical facilities if military action resumes.

Despite the growing military pressure, diplomatic efforts have not collapsed. Iranian and Qatari representatives held a third consecutive day of talks in Doha on Sunday, seeking a framework to end the eight-month conflict and address the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

President Donald Trump has not made a final decision on further military action, while Iran says it remains prepared for both diplomacy and military confrontation.

With additional US naval forces moving toward the region and negotiations still underway, the days following the November 3 elections could prove critical for the next phase of the US-Iran confrontation.
