喝 US Researchers Develop “Super Blood” to Boost Soldiers’ Performance in Extreme Environments
U.S. researchers have received $11.312 million in funding to develop enhanced red blood cells designed to help humans better withstand physical stress and extreme conditions.
The funding is linked to a program operated by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), focusing on improving military personnel’s capabilities in dangerous environments.
DARPA says training, sleep and nutrition can improve soldiers’ performance, but these approaches require significant time. The program is instead exploring biological approaches that could provide a faster response.
The project is aimed at enhancing military performance, while program documents reportedly explicitly state that clinical trials or direct human testing will not be conducted as part of the research.
