MWEETWA APOLOGISES TO PROFESSOR LUO FOR REFERRING TO HER AS MR LUO
UPND National Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa has unreservedly apologised to former Livestock Minister Professor Nkandu Luo for referring to her as Mr Luo describing the reference as a slip of the tongue and not intentional.
Addressing the media this afternoon, Mr Mweetwa says it has never been his intention to demean women that have especially made it this far in politics and other professions which have for a long time been male dominated especially considering his capacity as the Chairperson for the Zambia parliamentary network on gender equality.
He said certain words had always been used in Parliament to describe each other as peers and apologised for unknowingly using similar words outside Parliament and was quick to point out that most people who have condemned him lack the requisite background knowledge of the words used.
He said it was important for young politicians to respect and apologise to their elders once at fault as that is what society expects if them.
He also advised older politicians to accept their mistakes instead of continously misleading the nation on the poor governance and socioeconomic record of the Patriotic Front led government.
