Some teachers deployed in various public schools across the country but not placed on the government payroll this morning staged a peaceful protest at the Ministry of Education demanding to be addressed by Minister of Education Douglas Siakalima.

Speaking on behalf of the other teachers, Boyd Mwilaba explained that the affected teachers were deployed on replacement basis but have gone for close to two years without being placed on payroll.

Mr. Mwilaba has since called on government to place the affected teachers on payroll before embarking on the planned recruitment of 30,000 new teachers next year.

And another teacher Miyale Muzambalika has alleged that the Ministry of Education is placing some newly recruited teachers on payroll at the expense of those deployed a long time.

Efforts by Ministry of Education Public Relations Officer Anita Nachilima to address the aggrieved teachers proved futile as they demanded to be addressed by no other person than the education minister.
