We are ready to face government in court, even if it takes a year – Makebi

THE family of former president Edgar Lungu has vowed to challenge government in court over the burial of the former president, even if it takes a year.

Family spokesperson Makebi Zulu said the matter in court should only be seen as a delay and not as a way of convincing the family to bury him with full honours.

Zulu added that the family will stay in South Africa and fight for Lungu’s body.

“The matter in court is only a delayment, a delayment that will save the good of the country and family and I implore that you do not despair,” said

“The family will stay here and fight. The fights would [determine] whether the rights of the family can be superseded by public policy that is not law.”

He stated that by the time Lungu will be buried, the truth must be told as Zulu claimed the former Head of State was victimised by government for four years.

“At an appropriate time of putting Lungu to the ground. The truth must be told that that innocent family has been victimised for four years. Can you not endure a year and speak truth to power? Will you not? Can you not? Should you not?,” said Zulu.

  1. Makebi Zulu is the extension of the chikala’s that are the lungu family. This man is in self glorification mode.
Lungu was a Malawian holding two NRC numbers.
Lungu must be rotting by now

  2. The PF government of Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu our late former President acted the same to the Kaunda family our first President when he died. The Kaunda family’s desire was to have Dr Kaunda put to rest near wife mama Betty Kaunda. Some people had that desire too.But many more had the interest of putting him to rest at the established Embassy Park the grave site for the Presidents of Zambia. The people of Zambia supported the PF government’s intention, wish and desire because it was for the expectation of the majority of the people. Why must the goal positions change now with the Lungu family? Why must we behave like turn coats? The reason why the desire for the Kaunda family was was not understood is the same as for the Lungu. For the Kaundas it even made sense because mama Betty is resting there at the family place. For the Lungus no one.The traditions and values or culture we chose must not be changed by political fanatics. We must be principled enough to overcome political sentiments that are there to bring some competition with the government of the day forgetting the initial plan and need to maintain a place of resting point for our departed heads of state. The so called will of the family must have been fulfilled by not applying for the office of President. You apply for that office you stop being for family only.Thats why the people of the country know where ever the President is when he travels because they have interest in him and always want to know his health. The President becomes part of all citizens in the country. When he is not seen for some days every one starts asking. Why? Just bring back the body without further prolonging debates.Money must not drive us away from our moral obligations.Let us do the right thing. It is just important that the body of our late President his excellence Edgar Chagwa Lungu is brought back quickly for a befitting funeral the more you delay the more you are showing disrespect and the questions arise why you must not be punished. That shall be a topic to come.

  3. This is a classical case of a lawyer pushing an ignorant family to keep fighting government to make maximum cash. He is the benefitting party here. He will push it for a whole year to clean out all the little remaining cash they stole. I wish they had a man with balls between his legs to push this vulture lawyer out and close this shindig.

  4. Good idea, Makebi.

In fact, I would suggest you just cremate ECL right now. Ther is nothing the RSA can do. Just cremate ECL and send the ashes to Hakainde.

    VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.

  5. Makebi Zulu will have no such wish with South African courts. They will decide in less than a year. Zulu knows where he can go to engage in endless litigation and waiting with judges who cannot make a decision even five or more years after closing arguments have been made by both sides.

  6. We actually dont care. Why are you talking of a year and not permanently. Us we are ready battling out with those who want that useless dead body burried outside Zambia instead of in Zambia, ENDLESSLY, TILL ETERNITY if thats what you like. Of course gou didnt expect our Plan B!!! of going to court.

  7. When your source is no more, what else can you do.
For him, he would rather remain in RSA for as long as he can. Akalilo.

  8. But some people, taking one year on whose expense? Because even now you are depending on Lungu’s family pocket. No wonder someone sang that song ati Bambi balelila Bambi balesalula. You just showing us your interest is just on money, for you the longer this matter takes, the more money for you.

  9. Makebi Zulu’s interest lies not in pursuing justice, but rather in profiting from the Lungu family, who have been misled by greedy politicians taking advantage of the turmoil surrounding the death and controversial burial of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

The passing of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has brought shame and embarrassment to the Lungu family due to their pride and their tendency to blame the government for their own mistakes and indecision.

The PF, Socialist Party, and the so-called Tonse Alliance are destined to fade into obscurity. The opposition parties and their affiliates are driven by impulse and emotions, failing entirely to provide adequate checks and balances to the current government.

The upcoming general elections in 2026 will be easier for the UPND government, which has proven to be the preferred party for the people. President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership has been tested and has emerged stronger, more resilient, and filled with integrity, demonstrating a commitment to the country’s development through sound, implementable economic policies that are yielding results. President Hakainde Hichilema is a visionary leader who is fulfilling the manifesto and economic agenda for Zambia. His track record reflects genuine leadership aimed at uplifting humanity. Let us move forward with the UPND government under the capable leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema.

  10. Stop the stupidity of milking the widow. History has turned around and reversed the tables. This time it’s Lungu’s widow paying another spammer.

  11. He is talking of a year because he thinks the upnd will be out of power by next August but he should brace himself for another 5 years of court cases.
