WE ARE WATCHING YOU, IT’S NOT YOUR TURN TO PUT YOUR FRIENDS AT ECZ, LAURA MITI WARNS UPND GOVERNMENT

GOOD Governance and Human Rights activist, Laura Miti has warned the UPND against planting what she calls friendly forces at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) after hounding out Patrick Nshindano as Chief Electoral Officer.
Miti, a President Hakainde Hichilema’s appointee to the Human Rights Commission (HRC) as commissioner, said that the ECZ needs to be turned into an independent, credible and overseer of elections.
She said ECZ should never ever be the topic of discussion during elections, but an unobtrusive competent body.
Miti who has been a critic of the PF and its leaders warned that the departure of Nshindano should not be the turn of the UPND to fill the commission with their friendly forces.
“The Electoral Commission of Zambia needs to be turned into an independent, credible, overseer of elections. They should never be the topic of discussion during elections, but an unobtrusive competent body.
It’s NOT the turn of the UPND to fill the commission with friendly forces. We are watching. Please let’s make progress as a country by ensuring that offices and institutions that are meant to be independent, are truly so,” said Miti.
I AGREE WITH LAURA MITI ON HAVING INDEPENDENT ECZ. THEY SHOULD ADVERTISE THE POSITION.
HOWEVER, ECZ WILL ALWAYS BE A TOPICAL ISSUE EVEN IF IT BECOMES INDEPENDENT BECAUSE WE HAVE PF WHO HAVE INCULCATED A CULTURE OF PROPAGANDA, MISINFORMATION IN OUR SOCIETY. VERY UNREASONABLE HUMAN BEINGS. YOU WOULD THINK THEY ARE NOT ZAMBIANS.
Madame, don’t spoil your good reputation, too much talking is also bad. You may thing you are doing fine and yet you are doing more harm than good. PF literally filled almost every institution including ECZ with its own people and you were not watching that time. Now that there’s UPND in power, ati we are watching you, where were you that time? There’s no government even in old democracies like USA or UK that can satisfy everyone, no matter how much you try, some people will still complain or talk. Can’t you just appreciate and acknowledge that things are now far much better than they were. UPND is for all Zambians, it has none of its own people, we should now start looking at ourselves as Zambians, just as we recently saw in the teachers and health workers recruitment.
Well said Laura, indeed whenever there’s a renovation of any institution, we must desist replicating systems. PF had their friends running ECZ no question about it, this should not be repeated. Anyway, I believe these eradications are meant to perfect every system; Bally is passionate about restoring order and sanity in every systems of our land. It’s my prayer that he does the correct thing on this one again.

Unfortunately, UPND will of course try to insert friendly forces at ECZ. There is precedence. The judicial has been rearranged to advantage the party in power. This happens in every country, including USA and Europe. It is politics.
The President assured the nation that there will never be ECZ run by appointed by the President. Let him do what he promised the nation during inauguration day. Witness are still living including the former president was present. Let us now have a complete independent electoral commission. Nshindano and Chulu including their sister Sikazwe must be made to respond to some questions and arrogance they exhibited during the previous general elections. There are some constituencies which were mentioned, they need to take us there to see the voters period.

In fact after the appointment of the New nshidano, the appointee should also go down to clean the organization of all those that came through the political window so that we have some fresh air at ECZ.
The UPND should appoint friendly forces at the ECZ as long as due process is adhered to, for how on earth can they appoint enemies of democracy, unity, or a corrupt-free society! Behaviours strongly disdained by the current administration.
This is what happens in democracies the world over as is the case of SCOTUS in the USA.
Our laws allow for the President to appoint key overseers like the speaker or the chief justice from a menu of friendly forces.
The issue is for whomever is appointed to discharge their duties, diligently, fairly, and objectively in accirdance with the set mandate and governing laws.
What would Laura do if a friend of the UPND is appointed to head ECZ? Would she protest by undressing in public? Why hasn’t she opposed the appointments for the speaker or the chief justice or any others considered friends of the new dawn administration?
Let the upnd do as they deem fit. It is impossible for upnd to appoint enemy forces. Imagine, upnd appoints lubinda to the ecz. Our prayer is that whoever will appointed should deliver even under difficult conditions. Me I give credit, chulu, sikazwe and nshindano delivered to the satisfaction of upnd and disappointment of appointing pf. They were above board. If they did not do a good job then let upnd resign.
