WE WILL NOT ALLOW UPND TO BE THE NEW THUGS IN TOWN-LAURA MITI TELLS MWALITETA
The Daily Mail reports that UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson, Obvious Mwaliteta, says the party will set up branches everywhere, including markets. He says the cadres will not collect fees or interfere with council operations but will maintain law and order.
Maintain law and order – as who?
Mr Mwaliteta, in making the announcement, adopts the arrogant tone that has led to all ruling parties becoming a thorn in citizen’s flesh.
He opines that is only fair for cadres, who worked hard to put UPND in government, to benefit from empowerment initiatives.
Yes, and that’s exactly how they all start. Feeling entitled to benefit from what is not theirs to claim.
Mr Mwaliteta, no, you have no right to markets in whatever form – except to buy and sell like all citizens. You certainly have no right to maintain law and order. I certainly do not believe that I should answer to a cadre because UPND suffered in opposition. No more than I believed that a PF cadre had the right to demand money from a minibus driver.
You may have fought for UPND to get into office but we the citizens voted. And we did not vote for you to become the new bullies in markets.
Start as you intend to continue and we will not allow you to continue as the new thugs in town.
