WELL-DONE MR. PRESIDENT, THE QUESTION IS, DO REALLY NEED THESE DISTRICT COMMISSIONERS?

Firstly I want to commend the President for firing these DCs because they work directly under the President who actually appoints them. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense to keep them because they are stooges of the incumbent, (now former)
The job of a DC is basically to represent the President in the District and report to him directly anything of his interest. The President also uses the DCs to carry out special duties in the District.

But if you think about it critically you would say, we don’t necessarily need DCs because we have a lot of people at the District who can perform whatever duties the President may require.
The issue is that of who to trust and since DCs are directly appointed by the President, it is assumed they would be more loyal.

So, should President Hichilema keep DCs?
I think, he should though they are a cost to Govt, but I think he needs those cadres to be his eyes.
Secondly, we have many cadres who helped the President to win an election, so we must give them jobs.
We are in politics, if you don’t appease cadres, you risk losing the next election.

Therefore, President Hichilema should quickly reduce the long list of cadres waiting for jobs before they engage in wrong activities.
