This is my former schoolmate and a friend of many years. I also had the privilege of officiating at the burial of his mother at Mutumbi, and because of that long, standing relationship, this matter touches me personally.
What has gone wrong with our country? Zambia has always been a nation built on unity, coexistence, migration, and shared belonging. Many of our families have historical roots and connections across the borders of our neighbouring countries, yet we have lived together as one people under the enduring principle of “One Zambia, One Nation.”
It is therefore painful to see questions of belonging and nationality arise again, especially where the same allegations were previously examined and the relevant institution reportedly cleared the matter.
Where, then, is the spirit of One Zambia, One Nation?
I respectfully appeal to the authorities to reconsider and rescind this decision. Our country is still hurting, and this is a time when Zambia needs healing, fairness, unity, and reconciliation: not further division.
The truth is that many of us, if we trace our ancestry far enough, will find family roots extending into one or more of our neighbouring countries. That history should unite us rather than be used to divide us. Politics must not be allowed to hurt and destroy who we are as a nation.
May God help Zambia, guide our leaders, and restore the spirit of unity among our people.

The guy was born in Zaire,He is said so himself though He said DR Congo.These things happen politicians do such to each other.Chiluba did it to KK,William Banda was deported to Malawi by MMD….why you surprised that its happening to Mukandila?It’s in the nature of politicians to mess each other up.That is why Jehovah’s Witnesses stay away from politics.
In matters that have to do with the interpretation of the law, it is important to ensure that emotions are set aside.
Sentiments and comments expressed may offer emotional support , but may not help to significantly move the needle in this matter in favor of the affected person.
A diligent understanding of the facts of the case is of great significance. A more sober and wise quiet engagement with the authorities on the intricate issues raised is necessary while applying all necessary legal means to enable one to stay the matter.
Not arrogantly but wisely so that if a matter of omission on the case of a parent was done a child/ adult facing such a predicament can be assisted. Especially if the life of such an individual has been without any criminal inclination.
Entitlement may not be the best strategy. A human compassionate approach applied to the heart of reasoning and the conscious side of the law of equity may be the best approach to take.
How you approach a sensitive matter especially of a legal nature matters tremendously. There is need to calm down and be ready to dialogue. Don’t burn the bridges. Sitting down and carefully negotiate.It is very important.
If we can manage to make heaven through our sound gracious advocate where the law stands firm. Surely even here on earth with the right altitude a number of things can be negotiated.
Ba Pastor B J Ngosa please try to be as objective as possible when you are debating on some of these national issues. With this kind of writing you have posted, it’s us who should be asking or wondering as to what has gone wrong with you. Just because they are investigating on your long time friend does not mean that anything has gone wrong with our country. How does the investigation of one person affect the country? To the contrary, you should even feel happy because your friend will have an opportunity to clear his name and will never be investigated again. If you have any reliable information about his citizenship, move forward and help the authorities to do the verification and the matter will be resolved. Your friend is not the first and last person to have his citizenship questioned. It has happened to many people before him. As already alluded to, it happened to William Banda, KK, people said both of them were Malawians. Only that I can’t exactly remember now, but for few hours, days or weeks, Kaunda was stateless, neither a Zambian or a Malawian. It also happened to Chiluba whom they suspected to be a Congolese. Not long ago, Lungu’s citizenship became an issue including his names. I believe all these people I have mentioned equally had long time friends like you and Mukandila are. But in legal matters, long time friendship does not serve anything, what matters is the law period. In the USA, it’s even worse there, many people are being deported almost on daily basis. Your friend has papers and if he proves that indeed he holds papers of valid Zambian citizenship, there is nothing to worry about because he will be freed.
