Yemen Government Forces Push Houthis From Bab el-Mandeb Strait

Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces have pushed Iran-backed Houthi fighters out of key areas around the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait after a major counteroffensive.

Government forces seized key positions in the Dhubab district and advanced toward the port city of Mocha with heavy Saudi air support.

Fighting continued as government forces moved to consolidate their gains and pushed into surrounding high ground, while Houthi fighters remained active in nearby areas.

The battle for Bab el-Mandeb is strategically critical, as the narrow waterway links the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and serves as a major route for global shipping and energy supplies.

The offensive marks a major escalation in Yemen’s renewed war and could determine who controls one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints.
