ZAMBIA ENTERING DICTATORSHIP PHASE – KATEKA
New Heritage Party President, Chishala Kateka, has reiterated that Zambia is sleep-walking in into a totalitarian autocratic dictatorship, engineered by President Hakainde Hichilema.
The earlier sentiment made by Kateka in October, 2022 was premised on the back of the mass arrests and dentition without trial of more than 60 former Patriotic Front-PF members and sympathisers.
She has since condemned the recent arrests and detentions of some members of the opposition such as Chishimba Kambwili, as such actions go against the tenets democracy.
Kateka has reminded Hichiema that it is not okay to ill-treat opponents just because he went through similar occurrences, stating that doing so amounts to abuse of power.
She notes that the arrest of opponents by Hichilema did not even spare former President, Edgar Lungu including his wife, with the former First Lady humiliated by being dragged out of a class she was teaching in Ndola’s, Kasenshi Secondary school.
Kateka cautions citizens to note that dictatorships are supported and built by well-meaning citizens, who are duped into believing that those who are being persecuted and brutalized deserve to be abused because they are bad people.
She however submits that it is has never been okay to treat fellow human beings unjustly and inhumanely, just because they are not liked or not part of a grouping.
Kateka has called on Hichilema to use this mandate only to the exclusive service and advantage of the citizens by alleviating challenges they are facing.
