ZAMBIA MUST NEVER BECOME A COUNTRY WHERE THE DEAD CANNOT REST AND THE LIVING ARE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS.

Let us not exhume the grave. Let us exhume the truth!

Last Saturday, 17th October, according to media reports, Mwine Lubemba, Paramount Chief Chitimukulu, expressed concern over rumours that some people want to exhume the body of the late Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya.

Our Most Honorable Bemba Royal Establishment reportedly stated that individuals allegedly travelling in six vehicles had allegedly threatened villagers in Lisunga, Lunte District, and demanded to know his burial place.

If true, this touches a deceased citizen, a grieving family, and the dignity of a traditional authority.

This is why Government should provide clarity and the Police should establish the facts. The family deserves peace. The Chiefdom deserves respect.

But beneath this lies the question many Zambians are asking quietly: what really happened to Hon. Kafwaya on 14th August 2026 in Kabulonga?

The Central Joint Operations Committee publicly stated that he was fatally wounded during a joint security operation. That is the official explanation on record.

In a constitutional democracy, an official explanation does not remove the need for a lawful, transparent accounting process. That is why the law provides for inquests.

On 5th November, Mandevu will vote again after the Electoral Commission announced the nullification of the earlier poll following reports of destroyed electoral materials. Public confidence in the ballot requires public confidence in accountability for life.

I therefore make three lawful, patriotic appeals:

1. Let the truth about his death be established through law. Let an independent, impartial process be considered, including the Inquests Act, Chapter 36, where applicable. Let facts be recorded for his family and the nation.

2. Let the allegations about the grave be clarified. Let authorities establish who was involved, if anyone, and under what authority. If the reports are inaccurate, let the public be reassured. If accurate, let the law take its course. Let the grave remain sacred.

3. Let us restore trust in institutions. Let the Judiciary ensure courts remain accessible to all citizens at all times. Let all stakeholders ensure Mandevu votes in peace and transparency.

To the President: Strong governments answer difficult questions.

To all political leaders: Let us defend the Constitution consistently.

To all Zambians: Let us not allow politics to destroy our oneness.

We do not need to disturb a grave to find truth. We need the courage to bring truth into the open through lawful means.

Let the dead rest in dignity.
Let the living live without fear.
Let truth be established lawfully.

WE ARE ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION UNDER ONE LAW AND ONE TRUTH.

Rev. Peter K. Nsama.
