ZAMBIA NATIONAL UNION OF DRIVERS AND ALLIED WORKERS CONCERNED ABOUT INFLUX OF FOREIGN TRUCK DRIVERS IN ZAMBIA
The Zambia National Union of Drivers and Allied Workers has called for urgent attention to growing concerns of the influx of foreign truck drivers in Zambia.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Union General Secretary Brian Habeenzu says it is unfortunate that only the Somali community in the country is being accused of having flooded the sector when a lot other foreign nationals from other countries have also invaded the sector but working in the background.
Mr. Habeenzu says most local drivers are frustrated and that leaving the issue to continue will result in developments that will be unfortunate for all sectors, hence the need for government to urgently intervene.
And Union National Trustee Jackson Banda has also disclosed that there are a lot of unfortunate developments in the truck driving sector and majority of them border on the fact that the transporters are not allowing their employees to join trade unions.
Mr. Banda has also alleged that most human resource personnel in the transport sector are toothless as they are just used as a front while all decisions are made by people in the background without due regard for the law.
