ZAMBIA ON COURSE TO CLINCH IMF DEAL-NKHOMA

Development Bank of Zambia Chairperson, Noel Nkhoma says Zambia stands a good chance of clinching the US$1.4 billion bailout package.

In a televised interview on Zambia’s national broadcaster, ZNBC, dubbed Sunday Interview yesterday, Mr Nkhoma said Zambia is in this situation with IMF because of wreckless borrowing by the past regime.

However he insisted that the presence of IMF deputy Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva in the country recently was an indicator that a successful deal between Zambia and the IMF would soon be reached successfully.

He also said that China’s willingness to co-chair the Creditors Committee meeting recently was also sign of investor confidence and that Zambia was on course to clinch the much-needed, economic recovery package.

He also charged that it was fallacy for opposition political players in the country to start peddling unfounded innuendos that the IMF deal had collapsed.

Mr Nkhoma is also UPND Deputy Chairperson for Energy.

Zambia defaulted in 2020 and is currently buckling under the unsustainable debt burden left by the PF regime.
