ZAMBIA SUGAR MAY START PRODUCING FUEL – MAGWENZI

Zambia Sugar Managing Director Oswald Magwenzi has disclosed that the company is exploring ways of producing fuel.

Byta FMs Evans Liyali reports that this came to light when Mazabuka District Commissioner, Oliver Mulomba and the District Administration visited the factory Monday afternoon.

Magwezi revealed that the company is intending to start producing ethanol that will be used to produce fuel in order to mitigate the negative effects of upward price adjustments of fuel.

He noted that the increase of fuel prices due to the war in Ukraine has affected the company.

Zambia Sugar is Africa’s largest Sugar plantation and the company employs over 6, 000 workers at its peak.

Meanwhile, Mazabuka District Commissioner Oliver Mulomba has urged the company to invest more in energy production so as to create a lot more employment opportunities in the district
