Press Statement for Immediate Release,

Lusaka 02/11/21

ZAMBIANS, LET US NOT FAIL PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

Fellow Zambians, on behalf of our NDC president Joseph Akafumba, we are delighted with the just presented National Budget for 2022 in many ways. The Budget has addressed several issues in a very progressive manner. It is a sound Budget with a clear intent to uplift the living standards of citizens across the country.

Our particular interest today is the increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) that has been increased from 1.6 million to 25.7 million per constituency. This allocation shows the determination of the new dawn government to take development to the grassroot. In addition, it is also gratifying that the new dawn government intends to engage citizens in respective constituencies to execute CDF funded projects as a way to empowering them.

Fellow Zambians, it is clear for all to see that our president and his new dawn government means well for our country.

Our concern though is that any Zambian contractor that will be given a tender under these CDF funds should be prudent and complete the given project. We are aware that in the past some contractors failed to complete construction works. Some contractors were sadly carried away with expensive GX vehicles, Mongolia, Budapest, Lake Kariba and Slay Queens.

We are therefore cautioning the Zambian entrepreneurs to complete their assignments. They must be responsible because failure will result in these jobs being inadvertently tasked to our brothers from China who are always ready to carry out assignments expeditiously.

In conclusion, we urge the new dawn government not to relent in ensuring that CDF is utilized in a prudent manner void of corruption and embezzlement as sadly witnessed, in some constituencies, during the embattled gang of PF regime
