ZELENSKYY: GIVE UKRAINE 60 DAYS OF PEACE, AND WE’LL HOLD ELECTIONS

After Donald Trump called for Ukraine to get a new president and criticized Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered a straightforward answer: tell Vladimir Putin to agree to a full 60-day ceasefire, and Ukraine will organize elections.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine would accept whatever choice its people make. But elections must be safe and legitimate. A country under attack cannot simply hold a normal vote while missiles and drones are still coming in.

The offer is reasonable. Putin’s response would be revealing: if he wants peace, here is a concrete chance to prove it. And if Trump is serious about Ukraine holding elections, pressing Moscow for the ceasefire required to make them possible should be part of the effort.

Democracy needs more than a demand for a new president; it needs voters who can cast their ballots in safety.
