EDGAR  LUNGU’S DIALOGUE CONDITIONS NOT SITTING WELL WITH HH – STATE HOUSE

ECL’S DIALOGUE CONDITIONS NOT SITTING WELL WITH HH – STATE HOUSE

The dialogue conditions set by former president Edgar Lungu are seemingly not sitting well with President Hakainde Hichilema as he calls them not only strange but also contemptuous and preposterous.

The dialogue in question was proposed by the Oasis Forum and other church mother bodies.

Among the conditions Mr Lungu set was that his successor ceases funding the two factions of the Patriotic Front (PF) and that he restores the records of the PF at the Registrar of Societies to reflect the party’s leadership as it stood before 23rd October 2023.

But in a statement issued today by State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, President Hichilema said he has no involvement in the internal conflicts of the former ruling party.

“…The President finds these demands not only strange but also contemptuous and preposterous…It is worth recalling that prior to the 2015 Presidential by-elections, Mr. Lungu and Mr. Miles Sampa had similar disagreements. Could it then be said that these disputes were caused by President Hichilema?” read the statement in part.

“For the record, President Hichilema firmly believes in the rule of law and would never interfere with the operations of governance institutions, such as the Registrar of Societies. The President, therefore, has no authority to restore records at the Registrar, especially for a private club or any other entity.”

President Hichilema however stated that he remains open to meaningful and sincere dialogue.

These demands reflect how Mr. Lungu and PF used to operate. He decided who should be arrested and who should be released. He micro managed all the governance institutions including the judiciary. So he expects HH to do the same.

Fortunately, it is the dawn of a new era of law and order after the lawlessness of the notorious PF.
