LUNGU URGED TO SEEK DIALOGUE AMID MOUNTING PRESSURES, HICHILEMA CONTINUES ZAMBIA’S PROGRESS

Former President Edgar Lungu finds himself in a challenging position, as pressures from personal and legal fronts appear to close in on him. Mr. Winter Muvombo, Director of the Muvombo Development Initiative, noted that Lungu’s current situation bears a striking resemblance to Shaka Zulu’s famed “cow horn formation” tactic, where enemies were strategically encircled. In this case, it is as though the men and women in black, the law, the investigative wings, are gradually closing in on Lungu and his family so much that he feels suffocating and needs to breathe.

Rather than resisting and wasting valuable energy on battles that only drain his dignity and time, Mr. Muvombo suggested that Lungu should consider opening a private dialogue with President Hakainde Hichilema. The dialogue could offer him a dignified exit, preserving both his legacy and his family’s well-being. However, the emphasis of Mr. Muvombo’s message was louder: Lungu must carefully assess those advising him. It appears that some of his current advisors may not have his best interests at heart, leading him down paths that only worsen his situation.

The nation, Mr. Muvombo stressed, is deeply concerned by the distress and embarrassment Lungu is experiencing. More importantly, as a former president and a father of the nation, Lungu holds a responsibility to the peace and unity of the country. His actions in the coming days will have a lasting impact on both his personal reputation and the stability of the country. Rather than being remembered for disputes or resistance, Lungu has the opportunity to exit gracefully, protecting his legacy and restoring his dignity.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema continues to push Zambia forward, hosting events like the historic Mining Indaba, attracting global investors to explore opportunities in Zambia. Hichilema’s leadership, focused on economic development and national progress, is sharply contrasted with Lungu’s current struggles. Mr. Muvombo applauded President Hichilema, Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe, and the team for making the Indaba a resounding success, urging Zambians to seize this moment of growth and opportunity.
