KELVIN SAMPA ARRESTED FOR ANOTHER CRIME
– He is already in custody for a different crime

Former PF Kasama Member of Parliament Kelvin Sampa has been arrested and charged for defrauding Nigerian businessmen over a mine concession.

Sampa was arrested yesterday while he is police custody for stealing USD80,000 dollars from Japanese investors.

Sampa has also been charged with another offense of being found in possession of counterfeit notes in his safe at home.

ARREST OF KELVIN MUTALE SAMPA
Lusaka, October 9, 2024 – The Zambia Police Service would like to inform the public of the formal arrest of Mr. Kelvin Mutale Sampa in connection with various offences, including obtaining money by false pretences, possession of counterfeit notes, and possession of paper or implements intended for forgery. These offences are contrary to Sections: 309, 370(c), and 351 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Count 1: Obtaining Money by False Pretences
It is alleged that Mr. Kelvin Mutale Sampa, jointly and whilst acting together with Mr. Mabo Martin and other individuals yet to be identified, unlawfully obtained a total of USD 80,000 from Mr. Satoshi Sakamoto, a Japanese national. The suspect falsely claimed that the money would be used to assist Mr. Sakamoto in purchasing refined gold within Zambia, when in fact, this was not the case.


Count 2: Possession of Counterfeit Currency
Mr. Sampa was further found in possession of 49 counterfeit USD 100 notes, amounting to USD 4,900. The counterfeit currency was being presented as genuine when it was not.


Count 3: Possession of Paper or Implements for Forgery
Additionally, Mr. Sampa was found with paper intended to resemble special paper used in the manufacturing of currency notes. This paper, along with other implements for forgery, was intended for illegal use to produce counterfeit currency.
The offences are alleged to have been committed between June and September 2024 within Lusaka District, Lusaka Province. Mr. Kelvin Mutale Sampa has since been formally arrested and charged for the aforementioned offences. He will appear in court soon.
