Sangwa Acknowledges Court Ruling on Lungu’s Eligibility

Renowned constitutional lawyer John Sangwa SC has affirmed his acceptance of the Constitutional Court’s ruling on former President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2021 election. Sangwa, who had previously argued against Lungu’s eligibility due to constitutional term limits, clarified that despite his legal stance, he respects the court’s decision.

“I went to court and I lost,” Sangwa stated. “What I say is not the law; what the court says is the law. The court ruled that Lungu was eligible, and I accepted that.”

Sangwa’s remarks come amid ongoing discussions about Lungu’s political future and the interpretation of Zambia’s Constitution regarding presidential term limits. Although Sangwa had raised significant legal arguments prior to the 2021 elections, he emphasized that the final authority rests with the courts, whose rulings must be respected in a constitutional democracy.

Yes, what you sayis not the law. But irony is what say to critic others seems like the law and therefore need to stop acting like the law Mr. Sangwa. You are just one of many trained constitutional lawyers and yours is but one opinion. Its the rationale in your opinion that we seek. Is there any sense in it? But when you begin to suggest you are the epitom of constitutional law in Zambia, gives the wrong perception as law is a social science. In constrast to pure science whose answer is proven and measurable.
For once am glad you recognise who you are and admit.
What would have been interesting would have been your arguement in the Chizombe case against ECL and the state.
