STAKEHOLDERS WELCOME ZESCO’S EMERGENCY TARIFF ADJUSTMENT

A number of stakeholders have welcomed ZESCO’s emergency tariff adjustment reapplication aimed at improving the power utility’s operations.

Speaking during a hearing in Lusaka on Monday, Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) President, Ashu Sagar, stated that cost-effective tariffs will boost the manufacturing industry, which relies heavily on a sustainable power supply.

However, Sagar expressed concern over the seven hours of power supply allocated to the manufacturing sector and called for an increase to support economic activity.

ZANIS reports that Business Coalition Task Force Committee member, Mark O’donnel, voiced 100 percent support for the ZESCO emergency tariff application.

Meanwhile, Africa Greenco Group founder, Ana Hajduka, said the tariff adjustment application by ZESCO will enable the company to improve its service provision.

At the same event, Energy Regulation Board (ERB) Chairperson, James Banda, announced that a final decision on the matter will be made on October 10, 2024.

Earlier, ZESCO Managing Director, Victor Mapani, disclosed that the power utility company has reduced its debt from US$1.8 billion to K430 million since 2021, which it is currently servicing.
