28 KILLED IN HORRIFIC ROAD ACCIDENT IN TANZANIA

At least 28 people have been killed in a tragic road accident in Tanzania after a passenger bus collided head-on with a timber-laden truck before bursting into flames.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 9, 2026, at Mkambarani along the Morogoro–Dar es Salaam highway.

According to Morogoro Regional Fire and Rescue Force Acting Commander Joseph Mwasabeja, 27 of the victims were passengers on the bus, while one was travelling in the truck.

The bus was travelling from Dar es Salaam to Mbeya when it collided with the truck, which was heading in the opposite direction.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver attempted to overtake other vehicles, resulting in the collision.

The impact caused the bus to burst into flames, leaving several victims burnt beyond recognition.

Authorities have confirmed that 30 people sustained injuries and were taken to Morogoro Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

Hospital officials say DNA testing will be required to identify some of the deceased.

The tragedy has renewed concerns over road safety and reckless driving on Tanzania’s major highways.
