LWANDAMINA’S STATEMENT WHY ZAMBIAN CLUBS ARE FAILING TO COMPETE IN CAF CONTINENTAL COMPETITIONS

“We have always spoken about going back to the drawing board. Which drawing board do we go to? We don’t even have a playing philosophy as a country. We cannot move away from modern football trends; many factors have contributed; the investments, the quality of players, and preparations,”

“It’s unfortunate that our envoys were eliminated. It makes a sad reading. We have continued to struggle in CAF Inter-Club games. It’s a lesson and we must ask ourselves questions. It’s high time we had an audit on elements of the game as a country. Let all stakeholders involved in the game ask themselves questions and reflect on what could be the reason. We all need to put heads together as stakeholders and find solutions,”

George Lwandamina
Former Zesco United head coach.

  1. The standards of soccer in Zambia have fallen greatly. Look at the quality of so called nation’s best player of the year and their lack of impact thereafter; Consider also the lack of consistent goal getters or prolific goal poachers, there is almost none. Who can one point to as lethal local scorer?
Did Zambian soccer ever have a philosophy during Chitalu or Kalusha glory days? If so when did we lose the philosophy?
What are modern football trends that we are not adopting and we are lagging behind? Lwandamina would do well to give specifics, I opine.
What are the elements of football specifically that need to audited and by which auditor?
To Minister Nkandu and group consider appointing a highly consultative technical committee to sit in public to receive submissions from all stakeholders on how to make Zambia a soccer prowess. Committee can visit England, German, Netherlands, Morocco, Cameroon and RSA etc.
As Lwandamina has said, we must now put our heads together and find a solution and we will.
