North Korea Tells Trump “Don’t Rush” Kim Jong Un Meeting
North Korea has signaled that U.S. President Donald Trump should not rush into a meeting with Kim Jong Un, after Trump said he wanted to meet the North Korean leader before the end of this year.
Pyongyang’s response was notably cautious, indicating that any future summit would depend on conditions acceptable to North Korea rather than simply Trump’s preferred timetable
The message comes despite Trump repeatedly emphasizing his personal relationship with Kim, describing their relationship as highly positive and suggesting that direct communication between the two leaders could resume.
North Korean officials have previously made clear that personal ties between Trump and Kim would not override Pyongyang’s national security interests. Any future engagement is therefore expected to involve strict conditions and careful negotiations over the agenda and format.
The central issue remains North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs. Washington has traditionally pushed for denuclearization, while Pyongyang has continued to strengthen its nuclear capabilities and rejected negotiations based on unilateral disarmament
The latest exchange suggests that even if Trump and Kim eventually meet, Pyongyang intends to enter the talks from a position of greater strategic leverage, rather than treating the summit as a simple continuation of their previous personal diplomacy.
