A TOYOTA MARK X OVERLOADED WITH 11 ILLEGAL ETHIOPIANS OVERTURN IN MUCHINGA
Eleven suspected Ethiopians illegally being smuggled into the country have been left nursing accident injuries after a Toyota Mark X they were stuffed in overturned along the Great North Road in Muchinga Province.
Muchinga Province Police Commanding Officer Lubinda Mayamba says the accident happened in the early hours of today near Mukwikile Village, about 23 kilometres south of Shiwang’andu.
The vehicle involved, a Toyota Mark X registration number BAZ 3712 ZM, travelling from Nakonde allegedly lost control due to excessive speed.
Mayamba says the vehicle veered off the road, overturning several times before it plunged into a drainage ditch. The driver whose identity is not yet known, fled the accident scene and he’s being sought.
The 11 Ethiopians sustained injuries and were taken to Kalalantekwe Mini Hospital, where they are receiving treatment, according to Mayamba.
