Amnesty calls on Zambian & Mozambican to urgently clarify lawful basis for the snatching and extradition of Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda
Amnesty writes…
Zambian authorities have confirmed that former MP & government critic Emmanuel “Jay Jay” Banda was arrested in Mozambique on 14 October by a joint task force & subsequently brought to Zambia.
Emmanuel is reportedly receiving treatment in hospital.
@Amnesty calls on the Zambian & Mozambican authorities to urgently clarify the lawful basis & circumstances of Emmanuel Banda arrest & transfer, details of the operation & whether applicable extradition, legal & procedural safeguards were followed.
No one should be transferred to a country where they are at real risk of serious human rights violations -including unlawful detention. Such transfer breaches the principle of non-refoulement as laid out in international human rights law.
Moreover, no one should be unlawfully detained, & the Zambian authorities must promptly either facilitate the release of Emmanuel “Jay Jay” Banda or establish lawful grounds for his detention before a competent court.
Zambia must urgently facilitate a medical assessment for him by a qualified health professional, ensure confidential access to a lawyer and family for him & disclose the legal basis for the detention.

Please…Amnesty there people whose rights you have never spoke about. The state has been very clear. Let law agencies work.
Its also widely reported that this man escaped lawful custody. Why the outcry? Cause Mwamba and his bunch of clowms have spoken. How about those that Edgar Lungu allowed to be abused?
While you fail to deal with Trump and Putin you want to waste your time here? The level of harassment this man exerted on others let the law visit him
Amnesty International must demonstrate consistency and impartiality in its human rights advocacy. Why was there no comparable concern over the allegations that Jay Jay Banda urinated into a journalist’s mouth, invaded Central Police to harass officers, committed aggravated robbery, and escaped from police custody while he was ill in hospital?
Human rights advocacy should not appear selective. While the circumstances of his arrest deserve scrutiny to ensure due process, the alleged offences and treatment of victims also warrant attention.
Useless organisation
