ANTI-CORRUPTION UNDER HICHILEMA SURPASSES MWANAWASA’S ERA – NEVERS

September 17,2025

Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba has commended President Hakainde Hichilema’s anti-corruption crusade, describing it as more robust and effective than the one spearheaded by the late President Levy Mwanawasa.

Dr Mumba said while Mwanawasa’s era earned recognition for its fight against graft, the intensity and scope under President Hichilema have reached unprecedented levels.

He explained that unlike Mwanawasa’s administration, which registered only one notable conviction, the current government has seen high-profile arrests, convictions, and a justice system working tirelessly to deliver accountability.

The former Vice President highlighted the establishment of a specialised financial crimes court as a judicial milestone that has transformed Zambia’s anti-corruption efforts.

“There is now a dedicated courtroom for corruption cases, something we didn’t have before,” he said.

Dr Mumba rejected recent public assessments that rated the United Party for National Development (UPND) government poorly in governance and accountability.

“Whoever said they have given this government a 2 out of 5, that’s the joke of the year,” said Mr Mumba.

He argued that the growing resistance and bitterness witnessed in the country reflect the seriousness of the corruption fight rather than failure in leadership.

Dr Mumba noted that political tension is largely driven by individuals from past regimes who are now being held to account for misdeeds.

He stressed that President Hichilema has remained consistent in pursuing every corruption lead regardless of political affiliation.

Dr Mumba further cautioned Zambians to expect more revelations and prosecutions in the coming months.

He said that those who plundered public resources will ultimately face justice, no matter how much they resist.

The MMD leader also hailed President Hichilema’s broader leadership, praising his steady guidance through Zambia’s economic challenges.

He described the Head of State as a game changer in governance and economic reform and urged citizens to rally behind him.

  1. This man has no shame. Can’t he just eat quietly instead of embarrassing all the bemba ethnicity? You cannot compare Mwanawasa with anyone besides only Kaunda where corruption is concerned.

As a man of God get out of the bitterness that he fired you publicly because you acted cocky on a very sensitive issue and you went outside your assignments and an acting President. You were supposed to consult him instead of vociferating on issues where you were completely ignorant.

That was the basis of your public dismissal…you embarrassed him and the nation at large. You asked for the axe.

  2. We are not perfect that at times we make mistakes and we should learn to make amends were possible and life goes on.
A fool never makes amends and he dies in the very act of making wrong acts.
Well, now my pretty, life is indeed, efficacious. It shows truly who we are. No matter how long we may pretend.
It will set a light of awareness in people.
    Ah, this is him?
    Is it him?
    Really him?
    Jolly!

  3. Ba Twalumba, Dr. Mumba is entitled to his opinion and that is no embarrassment to me. He is speaking as an individual and not as a spokesperson for all Bemba speaking people. Let this sink in your warped mind.

It is actually shameful that you see things in this light. The fact that Mr. Lungu is the worst president Zambia has ever had doesnot mean all easterners would be a disaster as presidents.

  4. Why bring in Mwanawasa in your search for kudya bwino? Just join UPND instead of masquerading as an opposition leader. You are trying to convince who? Mwanawasa (and KK) would never protect even someone close to him. that’s the difference, not the crimes court, or any other nonsense you are spewing.

  5. Mumba would say that just because he was fired by mwanawasa yet everybody knows why he was fired and also no one from all the presidents fought corruption better than mwanawasa.

  6. We receive man of God! your words resonates impeccably with any well meaning Zambian. Those who are against or seen to be against were participants and enablers in the gross looting of our resources on a grand scale. Man of God, the fight has just begun and be rest assured that we will locate each and every ngwee that belongs to us. Your words may not sit well with beneficiaries of Mr Lungu’s thuggery and rotten leadership. We are now emancipated and ready to take charge of our destiny. We thank God for HH.
