ARMY READY TO EXECUTE ITS MANDATE IF CALLED UPON- ALIBUZWI

By Patricia Mbewe

Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Dennis Alibuzwi says the army stands ready to execute its mandate if called upon by the head of state.

This is in response to President Hakainde Hichilema’s remarks that he would deploy the army if the police failed to do their work.

Lieutenant General Alibuzwi said he is concerned about the increase in the pronouncements of tribal divisions perpetrated by some individuals in the country.

He said it is important for Zambians not to embrace tribal divisions but rather embrace the One Zambia One Nation motto whose objective is to promote unity regardless of tribe.

Lieutenant General Alibuzwi was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Rose Sakala, where he is attending an African Union specialized technical committee on defense, safety, and security.

  1. All along our army has been professional staying far from politics until this general.
The army is not a political weapon unless you are in Idi Amin’s defence Force. This general should shut up and keep such addresses in the barracks. Only Tyrants use the army to crush internal opponents.
The army is there to protect Zambian citizens from external enemies. It is not to be used in quelling civil unrest or threatening political opponents of a democracy. This just shows HH’s immaturity. We really made a big mistake in putting a baby in diapers in State House. We will regret it. Out of our six previous presidents who called the army? Not those during democracy

  2. Why should a soldier be concerned about tribal citizens? So he can shoot missiles at them? Baba it’s not your job to issue political statements.
