BEING FIRED IS NOT THE END

I was fired as the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia. It was one of the most painful and public moments of my life. Overnight, headlines changed, relationships shifted, and many people who once celebrated me found new reasons to laugh or walk away.

Some said Nevers is finished. Others said Nevers will never rise again. And for years that moment has been used, to this day, by some to mock and define me.

But what they did not understand is this. Being fired does not mean you have failed. It simply means your journey has taken a new direction.

Sometimes God allows doors to close not to destroy you but to redirect you toward your purpose. I discovered that my value was never tied to a title. My worth was never tied to a position. My destiny was never tied to a political seat.

To every young Zambian who has lost a job, been rejected, betrayed, or publicly humiliated, do not let that moment write your story. Being fired, being dumped, being divorced, or losing a business is not the end of your life. It might just be the beginning of discovering who you were truly meant to be.

I have walked through shame and insults, but I have also seen the faithfulness of God. I have learned that life does not follow what detractors and critics have to say. Do not let anything rob you of your destiny. You can rise again. You can rebuild. You can still dream.

Our nation needs a new generation of people of courage, the courage to keep standing when everyone calls you finished, the courage to believe that failure is not final.

So to anyone who has been fired, faced loss, or experienced rejection, get up. Wipe your tears. Lift your head. Walk forward. The same people laughing and mocking you may one day quote your strength.

Being fired is not the end. Sometimes it is the start of your real assignment. The best chapters of your life may be waiting just beyond the door that closed. Step through it and show the world what you are made of.

  1. Mybe what you need to focus on is why were you fired, because that will give us a snippet of how you behave. “Zambia’s President Levy Mwanawasa has fired his vice-president, Nevers Mumba, for making a public statement about a fugitive former spy chief without consulting the presidency”.

  2. Mumba should also mention that he got convicted by courts of law. He was spared jail, but in hindsight……anyway. The problem with Mumba is that somehow always cuddles up to the ruling regime, and he will do anything to make sure his stomach is taken care of. Can he confirm that he has children in the diplomatic service abroad? Is he on government payroll? We can all understand why he is a mushanina bwali if this is the case. When we electable new government next year, we will see him shift position swiftly to make sure his nshima plate is not empty.

    VOTE FOR CHANGE IN 2026.

  3. This is one of the most courageous thing to say. This is what defines a strong character. Being able to get up and fight for what you believe even when the world counts you out.

This beats most of the nonsense we have been exposed to. A lot of loud talk but no real power or courage to put their face to their words.

And many people actually share this experience and those who needed encouragement have gotten it. So well done for overcome public character assassinations and frankly speaking, just bunch typical haters. To think of it, most of those who like to critique others don’t do much with their lives.

A day of reckon will surely come to everyone alive. Question is are we ready to learn from others or do we have to go through it ourselves. I think it is wiser to learn from others and avoid making the same mistakes.

The fact that the Dr and former Vice President is still standing means he is a survivor and has some scars to prove the battles he has overcome.

    • “….To think of it, most of those who like to critique others don’t do much with their lives…” Mate, you have coined it very well and candidly, especially for some of these toxic and tribal daily Bloggers

  4. Yes being fired by the government is not the end. Just wiggle yourself into the next incoming government by praise singing, hero worshipping, blind support and all that and soon you will in their circle enjoying free perks as before.

  5. @DrNeversMumba Thank you for your article. In an era when men often celebrate bravado and stoicism, your willingness to make yourself vulnerable is a rare trait—one that may just save someone contemplating the unthinkable after a devastating setback. God bless you Sir.
