BINWELL MPUNDU CLAIMS STATE AGENTS ARE TRACKING HIM, SAYS HIS LIFE IS IN DANGER.
Opposition politician Binwell Mpundu has raised fresh alarm over his personal security, claiming that there are plans to track him down and silence him completely.
In a worrying message, Mpundu said he had received information about alleged plans to target him, expressing fears that his life could be in danger.
He further suggested that should anything happen to him, he would remain satisfied that he had stood by his principles until the very end.
However, Mpundu’s latest claims bring back memories of his controversial conduct surrounding the August 2026 general elections, when his whereabouts became unclear following inflammatory remarks about political violence.
On August 9, 2026, a video circulated in which Mpundu declared that he and others were prepared to “die and kill” over the elections.
The remarks attracted widespread condemnation from political leaders, civil society organisations and members of the public.
Although he initially distanced himself from the recording, suggesting that it was AI-generated, Mpundu later admitted that the video was genuine, apologised and argued that his reference to killing was in the context of self-defence.
The controversy was followed by reports that Mpundu had disappeared from Zambia, with allegations that he was attempting to cross into the Democratic Republic of Congo as police expressed interest in questioning him.
The matter has since taken another turn.
On November 4, 2026, reports emerged that Mpundu’s surety, Mulenga Fube, had told the Lusaka Magistrates Court that he did not know the former lawmaker’s whereabouts.
Fube further told the court that Mpundu had informed him that he had written to the Inspector General of Police seeking security guarantees because he allegedly feared threats from State agents.
Mpundu is also facing a sedition charge relating to an article allegedly published on his Facebook page in which members of the public were encouraged to acquire firearms for self-defence. He has missed court appearances and is subject to a bench warrant
His latest claims of being tracked and targeted therefore raise fresh questions about his security concerns, his whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his ongoing legal battles.
