CHIBOMBO DEBS WARNS TEACHERS AGAINST EATING FOOD MEANT FOR PUPILS
By Francis Chibolela and Chintu Malambo
Chibombo District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Bishop Luputa, has warned teachers and parents against misusing the school feeding programme, stressing that the food is intended for pupils and not for teachers or parents.
Speaking to Keembe FM News, Mr. Luputa said any teacher or parent found taking food supplies meant for pupils in various schools would face the law and would be held personally responsible for their actions.
He said parents should only assist in preparing meals for their children, while teachers should ensure that the food is properly safeguarded and used for its intended purpose rather than taken to their homes
Mr. Luputa emphasised that the school feeding programme is designed to improve pupil attendance, nutrition and concentration in class. He warned that anyone who misuses the programme is undermining efforts to improve children’s education.
He added that the government is investing substantial resources in the programme to encourage children to remain in school, particularly in rural areas. He said it was therefore unacceptable for individuals to divert food supplies for personal benefit.
Meanwhile, some parents in Chibombo have welcomed the warning, saying the school feeding programme has helped their children attend school regularly and concentrate better in class. They have called for strict punishment for anyone found stealing food intended for learners.
