CHIVAYO’S TWO WIVES: TWO VERY DIFFERENT PROFESSIONAL WORLDS

Wicknell Chivayo’s first and second wives came from remarkably different professional worlds, and their careers tell two very different stories.

His first wife, Sonja Louise Madzikanda, had a background rooted in the corporate and business world. Public profiles describe her as an accountant, entrepreneur and businesswoman. More significantly, Sonja herself has described her professional journey as beginning in the corporate world, where she says she gained experience at global institutions including Goldman Sachs and Barclays Investment Bank. In 2017, she moved into entrepreneurship, including launching a construction company and co-founding Yaayaa’s Kitchen.

That gives Sonja a professional profile built around finance, corporate experience and entrepreneurship. Her story was not simply that of a businessman’s wife; she had developed a career and business interests of her own.

Chivayo’s second wife, Lucy “Lulu” Muteke, had a very different professional identity. Before becoming Chivayo’s wife, she was publicly known as a model, influencer and personal shopper. Her work as a personal shopper was associated with the luxury fashion and lifestyle market, helping clients source high-end fashion and lifestyle products. She was also associated with modelling and brand campaigns, including work connected with Glow Envy Skincare.

So, professionally, the contrast is striking.

Sonja’s world was corporate finance, accounting, construction and entrepreneurship. Lulu’s was fashion, luxury retail, modelling and social media.

One operated closer to the traditional corporate and business environment, while the other built her public identity around luxury lifestyle, fashion and personal branding.

But there is another important distinction. Sonja had a professional identity that was established before and independently of her marriage to Chivayo, according to her own account of her career. Lulu also had a career before Chivayo, but her public recognition grew dramatically after their relationship became known in late 2024.

That difference matters because it challenges the simplistic idea that the women can be understood merely as “Chivayo’s first wife” and “Chivayo’s second wife.” Both had identities outside the marriage, but those identities were expressed in very different professional spaces.

Ultimately, the comparison is less about who was “better” and more about two completely different career paths intersecting with the life of the same high-profile businessman: one shaped by corporate finance and entrepreneurship, the other by fashion, luxury retail and public lifestyle branding.
