BREAKING NEWS: CHRISTA PIKE SURVIVES BOTCHED EXECUTION — NOW CONSCIOUS AND SPEAKING
Christa Pike, the Tennessee death-row inmate who survived a botched execution last week, is now conscious, speaking, and receiving medical care, according to her attorneys.
Pike, 50, had been sentenced to death decades ago for her role in the 1995 killing of Colleen Slemmer.
Her attorneys described her condition as “unprecedented,” saying Pike remains conscious and able to communicate despite suffering significant injuries to her arms after two attempts to administer lethal doses of pentobarbital failed to kill her.
Despite her injuries, Pike remains handcuffed and shackled while receiving treatment. Her attorneys say her long-term prognosis remains unclear.
The extraordinary case has raised fresh questions about the execution process and what happens when a state’s attempt to carry out a death sentence fails.
