CIA Director John Ratcliffe: Iran Left “Embarrassed and Humiliated” After Successful U.S. Rescue Mission

In a White House press briefing on April 6, 2026, CIA Director John Ratcliffe confirmed that Iran was left embarrassed and ultimately humiliated following the successful U.S. exfiltration of an American airman from Iranian territory.

Ratcliffe stated: “Following the successful exfiltration on Saturday night, our intelligence reflects that the Iranians were embarrassed and ultimately humiliated by the success of this audacious rescue mission.” He also highlighted the CIA’s deception campaign and intelligence efforts that supported the high-risk operation after a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle went down in Iran.

The mission was carried out despite a large-scale Iranian search effort and has been described by U.S. officials as a significant operational success.
