Cuba Suffers Sixth Major Nationwide Blackout as Energy Crisis Deepens
Cuba’s national power grid has collapsed again, triggering the country’s sixth major nationwide blackout of 2026 and leaving millions without electricity.
The latest outage began after a failure in high-voltage transmission lines in central Cuba, with unstable weather conditions also reported as a contributing factor.
Local media reported that many residents remained without power as authorities worked to gradually restore electricity across the island.
The recurring blackouts have intensified concerns over Cuba’s aging power infrastructure, fuel shortages and the impact of the U.S.-imposed energy blockade that began in January.
